Who Are We?

Manitoba Masters Aquatic Club Inc. (MMAC) is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Its main goal is the development and support of an adult swim program.
This program involves fitness, strength and flexibility training as well as learning sport specific technical skills.
MMAC employs experienced coaches who are well trained and very knowledgeable in the sport of swimming and working with adult learners.
Practices are available 11 times a week: early morning, evenings and weekends.
Choose to swim as little or as often as fits your lifestyle. Additionally there are multiple swim meets available throughout the year that you can participate in.

MMAC operates out of the Pan Am Pool swimming complex (training tank). The Pan-Am Pool is located at 25 Poseidon Bay at the corner of Grant and Cambridge.
The Pan-Am Pool was the site of the 1999 Pan American Games. The complex houses two 8 lane 50 metre competition pools, 2 weight rooms, and an indoor track.

Who can join our Masters program?

Masters swimming is open to any swimmer 18 years and older. No previous competitive background is necessary and you do not have to compete as a Masters swimmer. The most important prerequisite is the desire to improve in a fun and stimulating environment.
Swimmers are grouped in lanes with others of similar ability, so everyone receives training workouts appropriate to their level of ability.

However, MMAC is not a learn to swim program; it is an adult fitness program. You should be confident enough to swim at least four lengths of the pool comfortably.
Masters swimming puts the emphasis on lifelong physical fitness. We swim for health, for the challenge of training, to look and feel better, to make new friends, and for the sheer fun of it!

Those with a known medical condition and/or who are 45 years of age or older are advised to check with their physician before enrolling.

All Masters swimmers are expected to follow Lane Etiquette

Week of Free Swimming

Check the MMAC calendar to confirm practice time and location.

See you in the pool!

What about competitions? Do I have to compete?

No swimmer is required to participate in any competitive events. However, for those interested, each season there are local and out of town meets. Competitors are divided into 5-year age groups beginning with 18 - 24 provincially and 25 - 29 nationally and going to 80 and over. For example, men 50 - 54 compete against each other and women 35 - 39 are pitted against one another, etc. Meets give swimmers an opportunity to evaluate their progress, to socialize with people with similar interests, and even travel around the world to compete.
